Solid Protocol defines how clients and servers access resources, including HTTP, representations and authorization. Distinguish the protocol from a particular hosting service.

Imagine a journal and photo app using one personal store. Reading and writing resources is only a first step: both apps need compatible data structures and appropriate permissions. Connecting to a Pod does not itself establish application-level interoperability.

Compare Solid and Arc Space by identity, addressing, permission enforcement and application data models. A shared interest in separating data from apps does not make their protocols identical or clients interchangeable.
