From tool discovery to resources

The AFS MCP server registers operations such as afs_list, afs_read, afs_stat, afs_explain and afs_exec. A client discovers tools, then supplies paths to explore the exposed resource environment.

Resources and prompts provide additional entry points. Some deployments also expose content tools derived from declared collections. Do not assume every endpoint has the same tool inventory: use the list and instructions actually returned by the connected server.

One read, distinct responsibilities

MCP governs client/server interaction. AFS resolves the resource address, the provider performs the operation, and the server returns the result. The model’s interpretation is a further step.

Seeing a write tool does not grant write authority. Execution may still be denied. A successful MCP connection does not establish understanding of business rules; test whether the agent chooses the right path, handles the result and respects rejection.
